The DNETV Fire Rescue Board was established in 1998 as a result of amalgamation.
Following the 1998 Tay Valley Township amalgamation, Council wanted to continue with joint services from two separate and distinct fire departments. At that time, Tay Valley Township shared a fire service with another municipality through a long-established Fire Board (BBD&E Fire Department) as well as having another fire department totally within its direct jurisdiction (South Sherbrooke Fire Department). At the time, it was considered a rare circumstance within the province.
In March, 2003, Tay Valley Township underwent a Fire Services Review to determine the fire services' existing capabilities. The Township had to decide if the current structure was the best delivery model, both from a safety and cost-effective perspective. With the support of the Fire Marshal's Office, the Council struck a Fire Services Review Committee to investigate the status quo and determine if changes were warranted.
In May, 2005, the Tay Valley Township and Drummond/North Elmsley Township Councils both supported the Fire Services Review Committee recommendation to merge the BBD&E Fire Department and the South Sherbrooke Fire Department into one department governed by one board; creating the current Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue Board. The merger took effect on January 1, 2006.
