If there is a tree on your property line that has died, or is in danger of falling, please check the following before calling the Township:
- Is there a main hydro line that is within a distance that it could be damaged when the tree falls or is felled? If there is, contact Hydro One at 1-888-664-9376. Hydro will only tend to the matter if the tree will interfere with the main line. If it is the secondary line that leads to your house that will be affected, it is your responsibility.
- If there are no hydro lines in the vicinity, is the tree in the Township's right of way? As a general rule of thumb, right of ways measure 33 feet from the centre line of Township Roads. If you are not certain, Public Works will help determine if the tree is on municipal property. If the tree is within the Township's right of way, please contact the Public Works Department at 613-267-5353 ext. 132. If the tree is on private property, the Public Works Department can provide contacts for licenced tree removal services.
It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain trees on private property. However, if branches are overhanging onto municipal property (i.e sidewalks or roadway) the Township has the right to remove them in the interest of public safety.
