Recyclable waste includes consumer plastic containers (categories 1 to 7), glass jars and bottles, metal food cans, corrugated cardboard, boxboard, newspapers, magazines, a variety of mixed paper, clothing and textiles.

Tay Valley Township has a five-stream recycling program currently in place:
These items must be separated into the recycling containers situated at the Waste Sites as follows:
1. Clean Metal Food Cans (from Consumer Index)
- Aluminum food trays (pie plates etc.)
- Metal & aluminum cans (soup, pasta, vegetable etc.)
- Canned meat, soft drink, energy drink, pet food etc.)
- Aluminum foil
- Paint cans (please take to Hazardous Waste Depot)
- Aerosol cans
- Spray paint can
2. Clean Plastic #1-7 (from Consumer Index)
Check for these symbols:
- Water/pop/juice bottles
- Butter/margarine/yogurt tubs
- Plastic egg cartons (Styrofoam egg containers are garbage)
- Plastic bottles (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, pill, lotion, liquid soap, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressing, peanut butter, glass cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, dish soap, laundry soap etc.)
**** If it is STYROFOAM or doesn't have a number on it, it is GARBAGE ****

5. Boxboard & Corrugated Cardboard (collapsed and bundled)
- Boxboard boxes (cereal, crackers, cake mixes, tissue, pasta, oatmeal, toothpaste)
- Frozen juice containers - metal lids removed
- Toilet/paper towel rolls
- Cardboard egg cartons
- Corrugated cardboard (flattened)
- Brown paper (envelopes/liquor store bags/packing paper)
