Perth and Carleton Place — The Ontario government is adding two new Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) in Perth and Carleton Place.
“This is an exciting day for everyone in the communities of Perth and Carleton Place,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “These new Seniors Active Living Centres helps our seniors and people of all abilities continue to live healthy and independent lives.”
The two new Seniors Active Living Centres will keep seniors fit, active, healthy, socially connected, in their communities and close to their homes.
“I would like to thank Minister Cho and the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility, for funding these brand-new Seniors Active Living Centres in our riding,” said John Jordan, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston. “These investments make a huge difference in the lives of Ontario’s older adults. This programming not only focuses on physical and mental wellness, it also builds community, nurtures connections and develops friendships.”
The new Maberly Seniors Active Living Centre will provide 100 older adults and seniors with programs such as community meals, FoodFit classes, card and board games, a book club, and a community choir, and more.
"Tay Valley Township's population skews heavily toward older adults, and many of them live with chronic health conditions that increasingly impact their mobility and overall physical and mental health as they age," said Rob Rainer, the Township's Reeve. "With the Province's generous support, we are now able to offer a range of new activities for our seniors as well as others to participate in and enjoy. The early response from our community has been very, very positive to the new programs now on offer."
The new Carleton Place Senior Active Living Centre will serve 150 older adults and seniors with in-person, online, phone and satellite services. It will also provide opportunities for social trips and outings, music events, exercise and knitting socials.
“Thank you to Minister Cho for this welcome announcement. We are proud to partner with the Province of Ontario and the Town of Carleton Place to support seniors at the Station Active Living Centre. This investment not only promotes increased health and activity among our seniors but also serves as a vital point of connection for our community,” said Robert Eves, CEO Lanark Community Alliance. “Carebridge Community Support is part of the Lanark Community Alliance and our vision is a caring person-centred community where everyone belongs. We know that communities thrive when everyone feels valued and respected and can live to their full potential. Seniors in our region deserve nothing less.”
There are now 316 Seniors Active Living Centre programs across Ontario. Seniors and caregivers can use the online search tool to find a program in their community.
The Ontario government is continuing to make investments that expand access to programs and services for older adults and people with disabilities that meets their diverse range of needs, cultural backgrounds, interests and abilities.
