Tay Valley Township is receiving an Inclusive Community Grant for its accessible age-friendly sports & recreation activities programs.
“Tay Valley Township has been a community leader in acknowledging the growth of our senior population and anticipating the attendant needs of aging in place,” said John Jordan MPP for Lanark Frontenac Kingston. “I want to join with Minister Cho in celebrating a shared vision for moving forward with a collaborative model for healthy lifestyles in a rural environment. With this funding, Tay Valley’s progressive team can establish the framework for a variety of programs and events that reach out and bring people together. Knowing there’s a targeted structure in place for ongoing activities makes it easier to commit to a positive change for the better – a change that benefits not only Tay Valley Seniors, but the community as a whole.”
Tay Valley Township will see 50 new accessible age-friendly sports and recreation activities/programs for 300 local senior residents with this funding from the province.
“Inclusive communities help people with disabilities and seniors take part in community life by removing barriers,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Through the Inclusive Community Grants Program, we are fighting social isolation and helping Ontarians stay active and independent.”
Currently the township offers no sports and recreation programming for seniors and those with limited mobility other than a seniors' choir.
"Tay Valley Township is pleased and excited to receive the Province's support for our forthcoming accessible, age-friendly sports and recreation programming," said Reeve Rob Rainer. "The funding will help the township offer new programs, especially for older adults and people with disabilities, which will promote physical and mental health, reduce social isolation, and enhance the quality of community life for participants."
