LANARK COUNTY, Sept. 15, 2021 — After a long wait, Lanark County is once again hosting a free tree giveaway this fall – with nearly three times as many trees available.
The county will offer 3,000 free trees on Sat. Sept. 25 at the Lanark County Perth Garage on Christie Lake Road. The drive-through event will allow residents to take home up to 10 native trees including red pine, white pine, tamarack, white birch, yellow birch and white cedar. Here are the highlights from the Lanark County Council meeting held Wednesday, Sept. 8.
County to Recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day: Council has passed a motion to commit to recognizing Sept. 30, 2021, as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (National Orange Shirt Day) by sharing the stories of residential school survivors, their families and communities. This is in keeping with the federal government declaring the day to be a federal statutory holiday.

Tay Valley Township Council has announced recognition of the prominent Bowes grist mill, and its heritage residence, as a legacy property under the municipality’s Heritage Properties Program. Also known as Tay View Mill, the property on the Tay River and Bowes Sideroad, has been part of the family since 1929, when Anson and Mary Wilson Bowes acquired and rebuilt the mill. Minor Low Water Conditions Persist Due to Warm, Dry August
