Freedom of Information

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) governs the protection and release of municipal records. To demonstrate accountability and transparency, the Act dictates the municipality must be forthcoming in releasing information, unless a specific exemption applies. The Act also dictates that personal information collected or used by Tay Valley Township is protected from release.

General records, such as meeting minutes and by-laws, are available upon request and free of charge. Other documents may require review prior to release to ensure personal information is purged or the information requested does not fall within one of the Act exemptions. To access information, you may make a request at the Township Office. If information is generally known to be part of the public record, it will be made available to you. If review is deemed necessary, the Request for Access to Record form may be required prior to release.
