Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue Services provides fire protection and response for the Township. Two stations serve the area, one of which is located in Perth and the second in Maberly. Volunteer firefighters provide a valuable service to residents.
The fire department provides the community with the optimum level of affordable protection from fire and other related public safety hazards, while also ensuring health and safety for firefighters.
Fire Department Facts
Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue consists of more than 60 highly-trained volunteers responding out of two Stations under the direction of a full-time Fire Chief and two volunteer Station Chiefs.
The Fire Rescue covers a geographic area of more than 872 square kilometres, and serves more than 18,000 permanent and seasonal residents.
The BBD&E Station responds to an average of 150 calls per year and the South Sherbrooke Station in Maberly responds to an average of 40 calls per year. These calls vary from fires to medical emergencies to vehicle accidents to water/ice rescues as well as hazardous material spills. The department also provides assistance to neighbouring fire departments when required.
Fire Permits
A Fire Permit is required for ALL open air burning. Fire Permits are available at the Municipal Office (217 Harper Road) or the Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue Administration Office (14 Sherbrooke St., Perth). If you are unable to visit the Office to obtain a fire permit, please call the Township Office. We are quite flexible and can make arrangements to help you obtain a permit (either by fax or mail).
Fire Permits issued from 2004 and on are stored in a database, so you are NOT required to obtain a new permit each calendar year. Once you have obtained a permit, you must contact the Fire Rescue Administration EVERY TIME you wish to burn. They can be reached at 613-267-2596. Hours of burning operate from SUNRISE TO SUNSET ONLY, seven days a week.
