Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue would like to thank all residents for their patience during the recent fire ban. The fire ban is now lifted.

 A substantial amount of garbage was collected including numerous tires, furniture, propane tanks, bottles and cans, paint cans, etc.  that  littered our roadways, shorelines, parks and properties as a result of the failure of others to correctly dispose of their waste.

POLICE SERVICES BOARD
SEEKING A VOLUNTEER

Tay Valley Township Council is seeking a citizen to serve as a “Municipal Member” on the three person Police Services Board.

 The term will commence in August 2012 and end in December 2014, with the potential for re-appointment.  The successful candidate will receive a $75 honorarium & mileage for attending authorized meetings.

 Although not required, preferred candidates will possess the following:

• an interest in and commitment to participating in public safety and responsible police governance;
• an understanding of the police community, its values and its needs;
• administrative and budgetary experience;
• dedication to public service and the community;
• an ability to deal sensibly and rationally with issues within a group setting;
• skills in conflict management, negotiation and mediation;
• an ability to set organizational goals and priorities;
• previous experience on boards and committees;
• an ability to meet time commitments of the position.

Being prepared means being ready to cope for at least the first 72 hours of an emergency while those in urgent need are helped first.  It can also make real situations less stressful for you and your family.

There are lots of quick and easy things you can do to prepare your family. Here are five things you can do right now:

1. Know the risks – learn about local hazards and plan for those that are more likely to occur. Does your area experience flooding? Forest fires? Earthquakes?
2. Make a family emergency plan – since your family may not be together when an emergency happens, a plan will help you and your family know what to do and how to reach each other in an emergency. Visit www.getprepared.gc.ca to watch the “Making a Family Emergency Plan” video.
3. Get an emergency kit – find out exactly what goes in a kit by watching a short video found on the same site, “Preparing a Family Emergency Kit in Plain English”.
4. Talk to your kids – Share the activity booklet also found on this site.  It was made especially for children to help them understand emergencies and what they can do to prepare.
5. Spread the word – Share the EP Week Toolkit with your family, friends, workplace, or school.

To carry out the celebration of this significant event throughout our area, anniversary committees have already been established by Tay Valley, the Town of Perth and steps are underway to do the same in Drummond/North Elmsley and Beckwith Townships.

We encourage you or your organization to consider participation in this important anniversary, and, to this end, invite you or a representative from your organization to attend a drop-in information session on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Perth Museum, 11 Gore Street, Perth from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
